Delta Commissioner Wim Kuijken visits Oosterschelde National Park

On 7 July, Delta Commissioner Wim Kuijken visited the Oosterschelde National Park.
As government commissioner for the Delta Programme, Wim Kuijken is responsible for drawing up, updating and implementing the Delta Programme (or having implemented) for the Cabinet.
Chair John Lilipaly wanted to allow the Delta Commissioner to experience the Oosterschelde as inspiration for his programme. Wim Kuijken was pleased to accept the invitation and was amazed by the beauty of this unique part of the delta. In the presence of wide-ranging representation from the consultative committee of the Oosterschelde National Park, the Delta Commissioner visited the Roggenplaat by boat.
On board, he was informed about the current state of afairs regarding the problem of sand starvation (the disappearance of sand plates, salt marshes and mud flats by disruptions to water management) and the related threat of ecological and safety consequences. The Directorate of Transport and Water Management gave an explanation in this regard about the current trials being conducted to combat sand starvation in the Oosterschelde.
